SHIFT Meme

WELCOME! There's been a lot of SHIFTing in this round, hasn't there? What if you were SHIFTed into another round, or another version of this round, or even one of the rounds in R7's backstory? Or....maybe somewhere else entirely??
Look no further than here! So sit back, tap into the morphogenetic field, and come on down! Your characters are the next contestants on...on wherever they end up! Oh boy!
1. The Ship of Blood Well, this one is familiar at least! But...who are all these people with you? Is that one of the Spardas? Wait-who's that guy with the fedora? You mean there are timelines where there are more rounds!? BOOOOOOOO! 2. The Home of Happiness and Horror Oh great, you're in Denton, Aka a soundstage where you are forced to kill one another in front of a live worldwide audience. Oh, and said audience gets a vote in who dies. Oh, and in some timelines, you randomly start singing! Or...wear full body costumes. It's weird. 3. ??? The Meme is ever-present. The Meme will not be contained. The multiversal clusters are vast and infinite. Perhaps you SHIFT into a previous game. Perhaps you SHIFT into a game as yet known. Or perhaps it is happening right now. Who knows, now...and what fate awaits you...? |

Of course it was! I was totally about to fall asleep back there.
[ No, he wasn't. Ranpo was just being spiteful about being kidnapped and he couldn't even figure out HOW it had even happened to begin with. ]
Several things. Your wording, mannerisms and attitude. [ Then he held up one hand in an almost dramatic point at their loving host. ] What was it? 'The game is often rigged from the start by forces beyond your control.' I don't feel you said that merely on accident.

And then it's gone, replaced by annoyance as quickly as it flit by.]
...Just as annoying as Sherlock Holmes, aren't you?! Are all detectives from the same irritating mold?!

Being compared to someone like that? Talk about a compliment!
[ Going to laugh, then flash a grin while holding himself up proudly. ]
I'm a one-of-a-kind! Though I imagine you'd probably find someone like Dazai just as infuriating!

[He huffs, shaking his head.]
A pity you were chosen - I'll have my hands full fending off such despicable thoughts as you detectives have. Always snooping and scheming when you should leave well enough alone!
But one of a kind? hardly! you've only done the barest of deductions, ones I've not even confirmed for the truth! You shall have to do better in order to keep up with the likes of James Moriarty, Ranpo Edogawa!

[ It truly was the fate of detectives to foil the plans of criminals, wasn't it? This was no different, and now that he found someone intelligent that was at the helm, this felt like it'd be a challenge.
Which would explain just how pleased he was with the older man's words. ]
Your reactions give away more than simple words do, you know! [ A chuckle and he nodded his head. ] Don't worry! I'll give it my all and unravel every mystery around you and this entire ship. Just you wait!

[He sneers, though he seems...almost delighted at the prospect.]
Besides - I'm well aware actions are louder than words. Perhaps it's you that hasn't considered something, hm?

It wouldn't be the first time i've come across things I didn't like finding out, though it doesn't mean I intend to back down.
[ Moriarty's words made him pause a little, tilting his head to the side almost curiously. Something about the man's appearance also bothered him but he wasn't entirely sure why. ]
What would that be? Please do enlighten me!

[And then, like a light -
All the joviality fades, and what is staring down at Ranpo is nothing more than a gigantic blue-eyed spider, from the center of a web spiralling out around them.
Is that the feeling of spider silk, brushing up against Ranpo's face? Or is it merely a cold sweat? The feeling of standing in front of a displeased king, that could kill you at any time?
He tilts his own head, gaze piercing.]
...After all, I could merely be misleading your thoughts by simple, easily read actions and words.
[...
....
And then, it's gone. Like it was never there, as he smiles jovally again.]
Which is it, hm? Well, you'll just have to figure that out, won't you? Don't disappoint me now, Detective!

One second there'd been a man. The next? A gigantic spider and this completely unexplainable sensation of icy-cold trepidation running down his spine. Someone with this absolute level of power who could easily kill him like one would squash a bug.
He'd felt this... instinct. To want to move, but was it to run? Bow to someone like this?
Only as the shift happened did it feel like he could actually bring air into his lungs again, one hand coming to press against his chest. Was his heart actually racing? He'd faced against many scary opponents before, but this was on a level he'd never truly experienced. ]
I have no intentions of that. [ Ranpo almost felt it hard to speak, to pull back up his usual bluster in the face of all that. ] I'll discover your real intentions and which face you wear is the real one.
[ Though one may note he'd had to grab the back of the chair in front of him, as if using it for some kind of support. Not that he'd say it aloud, intending to... you know. Move when his legs didn't feel like they'd give out on him. ]

There's no voice, of course. Nothing but a butterfly on his shoulder, flapping its wings.
Moriarty, meanwhile, merely smiles...much like a satisfied cat lounging in a chair, lord of all it surveys.]
Please, do. I will be watching you closely...Ranpo Edogawa. Amuse me, won't you?
[One moment, he is there in the spotlight - the villain at the peak, the actor upon his stage.
And in the next...
He is gone. Not even a flicker of movement or sound, like he was never there.
And the butterflies are gone along with him, as if they'd never existed.]
