SHIFT Meme

WELCOME! There's been a lot of SHIFTing in this round, hasn't there? What if you were SHIFTed into another round, or another version of this round, or even one of the rounds in R7's backstory? Or....maybe somewhere else entirely??
Look no further than here! So sit back, tap into the morphogenetic field, and come on down! Your characters are the next contestants on...on wherever they end up! Oh boy!
1. The Ship of Blood Well, this one is familiar at least! But...who are all these people with you? Is that one of the Spardas? Wait-who's that guy with the fedora? You mean there are timelines where there are more rounds!? BOOOOOOOO! 2. The Home of Happiness and Horror Oh great, you're in Denton, Aka a soundstage where you are forced to kill one another in front of a live worldwide audience. Oh, and said audience gets a vote in who dies. Oh, and in some timelines, you randomly start singing! Or...wear full body costumes. It's weird. 3. ??? The Meme is ever-present. The Meme will not be contained. The multiversal clusters are vast and infinite. Perhaps you SHIFT into a previous game. Perhaps you SHIFT into a game as yet known. Or perhaps it is happening right now. Who knows, now...and what fate awaits you...? |
The Goose Is Loose
Ryuunosuke Akutagawa, The Gear, has stepped out in front of the goose, and he lets out a tired sigh.]
Let go of the weretiger's apparel, lest you suffer the fate of your brethren: torn to bits at the mercy of a moving vehicle accident.
[The goose almost seems to contemplate its actions before the tire is raised again, it lets out a loud noise, and it drops the tie, running away. Akutagawa picks it up.]
Keep better track of your belongings, man-tiger. Are you so unkempt that creatures think of you as easy prey?

He stared after the animal in question as it ran off, only drawn back when the older man spoke up once more. ]
Of course not!
[ Atsushi stepped forwards and held a hand out for the tie, brows knit a little in mild irritation. ]
I was just changing clothes and it somehow got into my room and snatched up my tie before I could put it on. [ He cast a glance down the hall briefly. ] I knew if I didn't chase after it that I probably wouldn't even see my tie again... but... that said? [ Ah. Right. He cleared his throat. ] Thank you.

[He says that like he's simply exhausted with Atsushi's way of thinking, and knowing him, he very much is.]
You're welcome. [He hands the tie back.] Do not let fowl beasts outwit you again.
Or anyone else. We're probably two of the more capable people here. I believe this goes without saying, but if you die here, our agreement to duel remains unfulfilled. I refuse to do so in the game given that is what our captor wants. We must survive.
Do you understand?

Not when Akutagawa had the advantage of a more offensive power and his was the more passive one this time. ]
It was a one time thing and it's NOT going to happen again! I was sure I did lock the door or at least shut it so that noone else was going to get in..
[ The goose is an absolute menace and definitely quieter than any person but he knew trying to argue anything past that was a moot point. He just took back his tie and put it on properly without so much as another word, quietly listening to what Akutagawa had said to him. ]
Yeah. I have absolutely no intention to die here in a place like this.
[ A fire flickered in his eyes as he fully looked back up to the other man shortly. He couldn't deny that it felt nice to get even a little something resembling a compliment but was hesitant to ever truly voice that. ]
We will survive this. We're so close to the end of this game, and yet... I feel like there's still a lot about this power of mine I don't understand.
[ It wasn't like the tiger's power, able to regenerate limbs and heal in seconds anymore. Atsushi still felt vulnerable, but it hadn't stopped him from pressing forwards. He knew they both had to get back home as soon as possible. ]

Well, you've been seeing visions, correct? Remind me what of, again? Perhaps they bear relevance to our captor's circumstances or identity. You're a detective, so now is a good time to delve deeper into the truth.
[That's what he thinks Dazai would do, anyway. He'll be assisting, obviously, but far be it from him to admit that.]

The first time... it was the laundry room and someone was speaking to me. Someone was talking to me, telling me not to 'steal' from the 'stinky' man but I went to face them, and they were gone. [ Which objectively wasn't so bad, but.. ] I also remember being in the kitchen and... i saw someone there but they were on fire and said everyone burns. She touched me and I thought I was on fire too, but it wasn't real.
[ The two things were so different but it was hard to piece things together. Then when he considered also the whole... vines and branches that he could constantly always see? It was a bit much. Especially coupled with what he'd seen during a brief run into the chapel that time. ]
...Another time... a man named Junpei spoke to me. [ After he'd freaked out for a short period he was fine. Mostly. ] Said he was part of a game like this one and knew two of those in our number from a previous one... and that Nero guy that's stuck here... there's still a lot I don't understand. This can't just be about the demonic tree, either.
