SHIFT Meme

WELCOME! There's been a lot of SHIFTing in this round, hasn't there? What if you were SHIFTed into another round, or another version of this round, or even one of the rounds in R7's backstory? Or....maybe somewhere else entirely??
Look no further than here! So sit back, tap into the morphogenetic field, and come on down! Your characters are the next contestants on...on wherever they end up! Oh boy!
1. The Ship of Blood Well, this one is familiar at least! But...who are all these people with you? Is that one of the Spardas? Wait-who's that guy with the fedora? You mean there are timelines where there are more rounds!? BOOOOOOOO! 2. The Home of Happiness and Horror Oh great, you're in Denton, Aka a soundstage where you are forced to kill one another in front of a live worldwide audience. Oh, and said audience gets a vote in who dies. Oh, and in some timelines, you randomly start singing! Or...wear full body costumes. It's weird. 3. ??? The Meme is ever-present. The Meme will not be contained. The multiversal clusters are vast and infinite. Perhaps you SHIFT into a previous game. Perhaps you SHIFT into a game as yet known. Or perhaps it is happening right now. Who knows, now...and what fate awaits you...? |

As long as Akane is distracted, it's good.]
I don't know. Maybe. We're here, after all, so it's possible someone will try and capitalize it. I don't want to think that, but...Zero seemed so...certain they could change history.

I don't know. You can change the past, I do believe that, even if I don't believe you can reclaim it....
no subject
In a way, that’s…admirable. I wish I could believe it in the same way you do.
[She slowly brings her cup to her mouth. She doesn’t drink, though.]

There's a quote from an anime, actually. I wonder if you've heard it.
May those who accept their fate be granted happiness. May those who defy their fate be granted glory.
I wonder... how many people find either of those?
[Akane, throughly lost in her thoughts, does take a sip.]

[Akane doesn’t see, does she?
She doesn’t see Miami get up, get behind her, ostensibly to get more tea. In truth, though. In truth she is quietly grabbing the pistol she had earlier concealed on the shelf.
It’s already cocked and loaded.]
I…hope you find…at least happiness, Kurashiki-san.
[Her hand shakes as she lifts it up towards the back of Akane’s head.]
Where…ever you end up…a-at least find peace…!

When she turns towards her, for a moment it's like time freezes. The teacup falls. And then she recoils back, away, trying to reduce the size of the target she makes, trying to do something, anything.]
AHHHHHH!!!!
no subject
How she shot and killed with them.
So now she lets loose on Akane, firing her first shot.]
Please be at peace-
no subject
The first shot doesn't hit her head, though it's close, hits her shoulder and breaks her collarbone, throwing her to the floor and she screams, and the pain fills her eyes with tears. It's like she can't breathe.]
M-Mami... p-please...!
no subject
[She aims the gun again.]
Please don't be upset. The truth is, I'm doing you a favor.
no subject
Her shoulder is on fire, and every breath makes it hurt more, whimpering and trying to pull away makes it hurt more, and the blood feels hot and slick, making it harder to move at all, harder to gain purchase on the ground.
A tear slides down her cheek and into her hair.]
What? No. T-there's nothing about this that I want.
no subject
I thought I had what I wanted too.
But I was wrong! So wrong!
[She shoots again. Please, please hold still.]
no subject
Please!! H-how were you wrong? Mami, you d-don't have to do this...!

[She's sobbing by now, in pain and fear and sorrow and confusion and who knows what else, the tears rolling down into her hair.]
no subject
I won't let you become a monster like me.
[This time, she aims at Akane's forehead.]
P-please...say hello to my parents in heaven. A-and...that I'm sorry I wasn't worthy.
no subject
Click, bang.
And then there was nothing left at all, only an empty corpse.]
cw: suicide
[Tears roll down her eyes, and she sobs. She almost drops the pistol. Almost.
But. She made a promise to herself. She would succeed. And she would do it on her terms.
Propping Akane back up in her seat is first. She puts a blanket around her. Refills her tea with a shaky hand, before she takes her own teacup. There's no blood that she can see on her clothing-good, good. It will make this all the less obvious.
She walks out of the tea room with the pistol and the teacup. She's already decided what she's got to do. Her roommate...her poor roommate. Hubert is going to be hurt by what she is doing. They all will be. But she has no choice. Not anymore.
She can feel her sins, her despair, crawl up her spine. She can hear the whisper in her mind telling her go back, go back and make more tea, make more for your friends, they can all join in and you'll never lose another friend again. Why worry about getting away with it? You'll have whatever you want if you just listen. You don't have to do this.
She does her best to ignore it as the temptation gnaws at her. She hates it. She hates that she wants to give in. But--no. She still has some kind of hope left. Just...not the kind that can delay the inevitable.
She is quiet when she gets into her room-the room she and Hubert share. Gently, she places the pistol into Hubert's dresser drawer, wrapping it up in his clothing. Then, and only then, after she's changed into her nightgown, does she drink her tea.
If only her own death matched Akane's. Matched her crime. Instead, she shakily goes under her covers, and lets the poison take her. It's what a coward deserves-and she knows when she wakes up next, she will not be in heaven with the woman she just killed.]
