SHIFT Meme

WELCOME! There's been a lot of SHIFTing in this round, hasn't there? What if you were SHIFTed into another round, or another version of this round, or even one of the rounds in R7's backstory? Or....maybe somewhere else entirely??
Look no further than here! So sit back, tap into the morphogenetic field, and come on down! Your characters are the next contestants on...on wherever they end up! Oh boy!
1. The Ship of Blood Well, this one is familiar at least! But...who are all these people with you? Is that one of the Spardas? Wait-who's that guy with the fedora? You mean there are timelines where there are more rounds!? BOOOOOOOO! 2. The Home of Happiness and Horror Oh great, you're in Denton, Aka a soundstage where you are forced to kill one another in front of a live worldwide audience. Oh, and said audience gets a vote in who dies. Oh, and in some timelines, you randomly start singing! Or...wear full body costumes. It's weird. 3. ??? The Meme is ever-present. The Meme will not be contained. The multiversal clusters are vast and infinite. Perhaps you SHIFT into a previous game. Perhaps you SHIFT into a game as yet known. Or perhaps it is happening right now. Who knows, now...and what fate awaits you...? |

Fool... Only a moment of hesitation for your betrayal would have saved you. It was your game to lose and you lost entirely, Kira.
[Silently, she deletes the passes. In that quiet, Makima's scream reaches her ears. She turns back and sees her on the floor, holding her head. It's an uncomfortably familiar scene. But even though Harriet is no stranger to romances wrought with murder attempts and manipulation, at least she's pretty sure her evil boyfriend (and his evil spirit boyfriend) wouldn't have screwed her quite like this. She honestly wants to know what the hell happened, even if it's rather awkward she just death trapped the man she looks about to cry over... Is that actually why she's upset? What was that, about a devil. Maybe she should just take this from the top, though she expects to be told to fuck off.]
...What was your plan supposed to be?
cw eugenics
[Makima slowly turns her head towards Harriet. She did, she thinks, hear something in the automated response as the passes were being input and parsed, to have roughly ascertained the situation. Truly brilliant, a method that wasn't even available to Kira during their fight. Perhaps if she'd approached Harriet first, this debacle wouldn't have occurred.
A plan... She suddenly misses that soft Kaito boy. "Measure, then draw." How is she supposed to draw when it feels like she's lost both her hands and not just one? A Devil at that stage is euthanized. She crosses her arms, needing to steady them somewhere that is not her pressured head. The hoarse screech stops, at least.]
It was not a plan. It was a contract. The foundation for any future plan.
[She looks down at the ground. This is the part where a normal girl drunk on love would be worried about the fact that Kira is dead and they could never be together again. But this whole stupid situation occurred because it was so strongly believed that if they stayed here, the dead could be revived. When Makima and Kira had continued to act comfortable together even after their altercation, that had been because she made him her baby. Because he was the vehicle to the rest of her plans that she valued. What can bring any of that back? Makima is much more preoccupied with this than whether Harriet can even remotely recall scattered remarks about "devil hunters making contracts with devils in order to fight on their level" or the importance that Makima ascribed to the blood oath.]
"By Yoshikage Kira, fo..." [She swallows.] I can say it. That settles things. The contract was never valid.
cw implied csm spoilers
In any case, she does recall a thing or two about those devil hunters they talked about, and the blood oath thing was hard to ignore, even if she may not have been watching her particular conversation with Alastor that closely. She can put two and two together... somewhat.]
Thought you said a contract in your world was between a human and a devil.
[Not that Harriet means to accuse, but Makima... is basically saying it anyway so screw it.]

[She smiles very hollowly. She actually didn't talk about the contracts between one devil and another, but who cares? Not like she can make those anymore either.]
No one can read our minds to check.
