Round 2 Test Drive Meme

TEST DRIVE 1. ARRIVAL You're here, in the Mall. Wherever the Mall might be, right? And what happened to your powers? Your memories? Who else has been so unlucky as to be brought in with you? Also, why are the rules littered with emojis!? 2. POWER You have been, er, "blessed" with a power. Its not a power you want or care for, but its yours now. You might want to try an control it, lest you hurt someone else. That is...unless you want to. Just don't blow up any public property while you're at it! 3. HOME So now you live in a mall! All right! Modern conveniences galore! And hey, there's a cat cafe and a bar! Maybe living here forever won't be so bad. Unless you're looking for a way out, but surely, you wouldn't do that, right? 4. MINIGAME The Life Coach has decided to do 'games'. Those who win the games will get prizes, the Life Coach has promised. The Test Drive Meme's minigame: a costume contest! The best costume made in five hours wins! Work alone, or in teams - the Life Coach is ok with either~! 5. MOTIVE The Life Coach has announced the motive for the week. Clearly someone really wants to give you a reason to kill someone. How will you react? Will you stand against such an insult and help others to fight the temptation? Or perhaps, you yourself are tempted...? 6. DEATH One of your own has died - no, been killed. The Inquisition has started. The body lies before you, and now you must discern the truth from the clues before you. But can you when you mourn? Or, perhaps you don't mourn the dead. Perhaps you're only playing along because you know more than you let on. 7. TRIAL Well, it looks like the Life Coach wasn't kidding when they said there would be a trial. So now you're here, looking to condemn the responsible killer. If you do, they die. If you don't, you die. Whatever happens, you have to figure out what happened. Can you? 8. WILDCARD Anything not mentioned above. Go wild! |

It is a mystery.
Not as of yet, no. That doesn't necessarily mean much, however...some of my memories don't follow properly, so it's entirely possible we were administered some sort of drug to suppress our recollection of recent events.
truly the deepest of mysteries. however will you manage to solve it
... [ Hmmm...
It's the mention of the drug that has him frowning ever-so-slightly, gaze lowering in consideration. Well, it would make sense, wouldn't it? The more information this group has, the more they'd have to work with in getting out of there. He'd consider it being something to do with the Metaverse, but...
... there's nothing -- only silence.
If this were the Metaverse, it would be as though he's been completely reset. Right back to before he ever even awakened... ]
I'm having the same issue with my memories...
[ While his tone might be calm, there's a lot of frustration resting beneath the surface here. Regardless of the determination to focus on what he knows for now, he can't exactly ignore the anger. The feelings that comes with the thought of this group having been drugged on top of the kidnapping...
His thoughts shift to his friends once again... He can only hope they're all okay -- safe and sound in their homes...
Suddenly, his brow tenses... ] Hm...
[ He narrows his eyes just a bit at the other young man. ] We should find out if there's something that connects everyone...
[ If there is something, maybe that'll bring them one step closer to getting out of here. And... naturally, he doesn't expect it to be anything listed on the profiles. If the kidnapper -- no... he's sure it's kidnappers -- went so far as to affect their memories, they wouldn't just... shove clues right into their faces, right? Granted... there's just as much of a chance they're confident enough they just... won't be able to escape.
Though... an entire mall? ... somehow gives him an even worse feeling about all this. What kind of people could they be, to have access to a place like this... How long do they plan on keeping them? Malls typically... do open back up at some point... ]
It shall take some serious sleuthing.
And here I thought I was the detective here.
[Despite the offended words, his tone is entertained, and he gives Akira a playful wink.]
If it was only us, or if I recognized the other names here, I might consider the possibility that this was related to the Phantom Thieves case. But seeing as none of the other profiles are familiar, and it seems unlikely that they've managed to make me forget thirteen people involved in the case, I believe we'll have to look elsewhere for the connection.
We should gather our fellow victims for questioning about their backgrounds. Any common thread might give us insight into our kidnappers' motivations, and possibly their identities. Of course, we should also be prepared for the possibility that we've all forgotten whatever it was that caused us to be targeted, but it certainly won't hurt to check.
[If only because knowing a thing or two about their new roommates will be useful if things do turn murdery in here. He's seen too much of the worst of humanity to assume they won't.]
he believes in you
If I recall correctly, your preferred title is Psychic Rookie Detective...
[ There's a hint of teasing to his tone that matches the brief glint in his eyes.
Ah...
Just going to oh-so-casually toss that out there, huh? Well, this particular detective-in-training hadn't exactly hesitated to state how suspicious he and his friends were to him; Akira actually has to suppress a faint smirk at that. All things considered, he hadn't just been deflecting the good detective's suspicion during that particular encounter... Granted, he can't exactly recall where said suspicion had stemmed from, exactly.
Is it the smile that seems to be hiding something? Heh, not likely. There had been something else to it, right? Still, it can't hurt to work with this person... At the very least, Goro Akechi, in whole, doesn't feel quite like a threat -- he never has felt like an actual threat to him as a person, has he? Mm... anyway.
He's nodding to the suggestion. ] If anything, it won't hurt to learn what we can about them as people.
[ For a number of reasons; even if he doesn't know it's a similar reason (even if he suspects it could be the case), one does happen to be similar to his confidant's. Learning everything about these people for the sake of an unfortunately needed just in case safety net is a good idea. ]
no subject
[He waggles a finger in mock chastisement, slightly exaggerated to make it clear he's joking.]
Though, it would be quite convenient if the former were actually true. It would eliminate a majority of the guesswork from my job. Not quite so much as a full and willing confession does, of course...but it would certainly help in figuring out when someone's hiding something from me.
Not that wishful thinking will get us anywhere. We'll just have to hope our fellow captives are willing to share details about themselves when asked.
[Because of course he was talking about other captives hiding things, right?]
no subject
By the time it's faded, he's left lifting both brows at the next series of words. Hm... Boy, those words sure do sound like they contain a hidden message. Goodness, whatever could they mean?
... In all seriousness, he doesn't believe the implications of his group seeming suspicious came from nowhere. After all, he moved into the area around the same time that the Phantom Thieves went active, their group contains people who were tied to each case. A quick search of his room could have had him looking even more suspicious, even if it couldn't have tied them directly to the cases...
And now? His profile is betraying him here, even if... Goro Akechi's is just outright confusing to him in having him listed as one, too. Even if some part of him isn't surprised at the entire concept. And some tiny part does wonder if that talk of them having things in common could have held more meaning -- more than he ever could have realized at that time...
But there are still a lot of holes.
Of course, right now really isn't the time to be dwelling on the things he can't begin to figure out as it all currently stands. ] Hm... or we could start right here.
[ Hands in pockets, he glances to the side in thought. As he looks at Akechi once again, he cocks his head to the side a little. He'll start... kind of simple? Granted... anything involving law enforcement doesn't exactly leave a pleasant feeling in the pit of Akira's stomach.
Some part is curious to know how this intended career path started for someone around his age, though... ] How about we start with what inspired you to become a rookie detective?
no subject
His playful grin fades at Akira's question, replaced by something more serious.]
My motivations, hmm? Well, I can't say it's anything grant or noble. Actually, it's rather personal...
[A look of anger flashes through his eyes, and he looks somewhere past Akira, fixing the wall with an intense glare. Just thinking about it makes his blood boil all over again...]
I told you that my father was an evil man, right? Abandoning my mother was far from his only crime, and I became a detective out of disgust with people like that. This way, I can make such sickening individuals pay for their cruel behavior.
no subject
He can't say he'd begin to know how that would feel; given the current state of his own memories, he wouldn't honestly begin to be able to compare. But, even without his memories being intact, he can easily say it must have been awful.
Being abandoned... and that not even being the extent of it? The fact that he specifically used "far from" in that sentence leaves... quite a bit of room for a list. His gaze lowers a moment. Saying "I'm sorry" damn sure doesn't feel right. That's such an easy pair of words to toss around... ]
I consider that a great reason. [ There's a glint in his eyes... The only indication visible, at first, in that he likes the idea of shitty adults paying for what they've done. Right as he's turning his head, one corner of his lips lifts ever-so-slightly. ] So, you want to punish bad guys...
[ He's looking back to Akechi. There's a slightly wider smile. ] I don't see anything wrong with that.
no subject
There could certainly be worse reasons. It might be far from philanthropic, but it is still the pursuit of justice.
[He focuses his eyes back on Akira and brings a hand to his chin in thought.]
What about you? Our past discussions have shown that you also have a strong sense of justice...what motivates yours?
no subject
It still doesn't help. He's actually giving a light frown as he holds a blink to think on it. Although, "try to" should probably be in that sentence, since that attempt ends with him sighing and shaking his head. ] ... I don't actually remember where it started.
[ It's the truth. ] Either way, there's nothing I hate more than seeing people suffer, especially at the hands of someone abusing their power.
[ His second hand slides into its respective pocket, both hands curling a bit. ] Victims being bullied, used, or worse...
[ His expression has shifted to something firmer. ] I believe those who can stop it, should always step in and fight for those people.
[ There's so much more to it, though. Something that he feels really set it all off. But as angry as the gaps in his memories have him feeling, he will just have to accept this until either the memories return on their own... or... something's figured out about this part of everyone's growing list of problems. ]
no subject
How noble. Maybe you wouldn't make a bad detective, yourself.
[He smiles, but it has a sad...no, more disappointed edge to it.]
The force could certainly use more people with genuine good intentions. As nice as it would be if everyone there cared about putting a stop to dangerous individuals, corruption is, unfortunately, as much of a problem there as it is in other places tied to the government.
[Which is to say, everywhere in their stupid country. But he doesn't voice that part of his thought.]
no subject
Akira's eyebrows lift just a bit; he's never, as far as he remembers, actually thought of himself as noble. The only desire he has right now is focusing on getting through this, on getting everyone out of here...
Alive. ]
You think so? [ One corner of his lips lifts a little. ] Can't say I've ever been interesting in becoming one...
[ He lowers his gaze a moment. ]
I know it's not as easy as just wishing for the world to be a better place. [ A faint, wry smile surfaces for a moment. ] And I know, even though it should never stop at accepting that bad people exist, people are gonna do that.
[ He holds a blink for a moment before releasing a quiet, thoughtful sound. ] Guess you'll have it tough, dealing with greedy and arrogant people on a personal level. [ A soft smirk. ] But you seem stubborn enough to handle it.
no subject
[Or...maybe they do? But he still finds it hard to believe he'd join the Phantom Thieves, given his situation. If either side found out about his work for the other, he'd be in hot water.]
But you're right, in that I manage it well enough. My skills are too valuable to them to do anything that might jeopardize my willingness to cooperate with them, and I'm certain they also have secrets of their own that they don't want to risk exposing to me by attempting to intimidate me.
[Abruptly, his faint smile turns into a grin and he covers a laugh with his hand, as if he just thought of something so cute it's funny.]
Besides, I work closely with Sae-san on a regular basis. I might simply be immune to intimidating looks by now.
no subject
Guess... we're fated to settle for only ever being the terrifying Kurusu-Akechi duo while here.
[ The moment passes, of course; this isn't the place to joke around too much. Incidentally, those next words out of Akechi's mouth have his attention firmly gripped. It's really just a matter of the particular wording that causes something to tug at his gut, but... either way...
The mention of "skills" -- it could just be a matter of intelligence and level of observation, but just how valuable could something like that be? Namely in the area of keeping a bunch of adults in check, and especially in their society where most adults have far too much pride to remain backed into some kind of corner by some kid...
Most important of all, however, is the mention of said people "also" having secrets that they're afraid of having exposed...
Important questions to be asked later: locked and loaded. ] ...?
[ His thoughtful expression is eased away in favor of him releasing a small huff-like laugh of amusement. The name doesn't ring a bell, but that's no reason to avoid commentary, since this person clearly means something to Akechi. ]
This Sae-san sounds like an impressive woman...
[ A whimsical, faint smile surfaces. That grin, that laugh... It seems the famous Goro Akechi has a crush, though Akira can't be sure of that kind of thing. Better to not jump right into teasing him or something. ]
no subject
Of course, none of that shows on his face. Instead, he turns his grin on Akira.]
I guess we'll just have to make the most of it while it lasts, then.
[He punctuates the comment with a playful, almost flirtatious wink. Then his expression settles to a simple energetic smile as he moves on to talk about Sae.]
Impressive is certainly one way to describe Sae-san. It takes a remarkable level of determination and courage to become a female prosecutor, let alone one who is able to earn such respect in a male-dominated field. She does have a habit of working too hard, particularly since she was assigned to the Phantom Thieves case, but everyone makes mistakes in some way or another.
no subject
And she's been assigned the case of the Phantom Thieves... He's not too surprised by that, considering Akechi did say he's been working closely with her. And his focus has been on the Phantom Thieves... ]
Hopefully she'll be able to find some time to rest soon. [ Never mind... it's him and his friends running her ragged... Tiiiiiime to take evasive measures?
Time to take evasive measures. ] It seems like someone has a crush.
[ Is he only talking about one in regards to Sae-san? It's a mystery, a true conundrum!
...
Actually, yeah, he's only talking about Sae-san. ]
no subject
P-perhaps I have something of one. It's difficult not to admire a beautiful woman with the drive necessary to succeed in an environment that holds her to higher standards than her colleagues. Unfortunately, she doesn't seem to be interested.
no subject
Here they are.
There's a soft, more gently amused smile as he shakes his head. ] Have you even asked?
[ He doesn't know this person, so... his options in terms of compassion are limited. Still,
as per the rules and for the sake of a confidant rank-uphe wants to offer... something here? It feels empty to just leave it there, and he does care. So, the smile shifts away from the amused side of things and more towards the softer side. ]
Either way- [ Shifting weight from one foot to the other. ] -even if she doesn't... you're easy enough to like, so I'm sure you're gonna find somebody great.
[ Does this count as dating advice...? AKECHI DIDN'T EVEN ASK FOR THIS. Granted boosting morale is important in situations like this.
Still...??? ]
no subject
I've...made my interest clear. I have my doubts she's even interested in a relationship at all at the moment...she neglects her personal life to the point that it's difficult simply convincing her to leave her desk for a meal. Besides, she is six years my senior, so it would hardly be a surprise if I'm simply too young for her...
no subject
Well, that's what he's running with on this, until he's proven otherwise...
Ahhh... Now he's getting a clearer picture of the situation. Older, hyper-focused... He can imagine it's a matter of age, really, even if he doesn't look remotely fazed by that detail. If anything, he looks the tiniest bit impressed. Dimly, comes the temptation to tease--
To think... all your most loyal fangirls will remain forever heartbroken because the famous Goro Akechi is into older women...
... ]
... To think, all your most loyal fangirls will remain forever heartbroken because you're into older women.
[ Granted, it's said almost too dramatically to be even a tiny bit serious... And, after that, he's releasing a laugh within a soft exhale, his head turning to the side as he casually tosses out: ] ... not that I can fault you for that.
[ Listen, his doctor is kind of hot.
And also older.
But, anyway-- ] Getting crushes on people you likely have no chance of being with isn't easy. But... it passes, eventually.
no subject
It's hardly as if I'm exclusively interested in older women. Sae-san just happens to be both remarkable and more than a few years older than I am.
The reason my fangirls will remain heartbroken is entirely separate from anything to do with age preferences.
[An awkward pause as he brushes a few stray strands of hair away from his face.]
Ah...I don't suppose you have any idea how long it takes for such things to pass? I've had these feelings for her for nearly a year by now.
find yourself multiple girlfriends and boyfriends: the tag (please don't listen to him)
Well, whatever the case, the question has Akira blinking lightly in surprise.
His gaze lowers a bit in thought, and he's even reaching up to twist a strand of his own bangs. That hand lowers almost immediately after as he looks back at Akechi. ]
That depends on the person.
[ This isn't the first time he's been put into a situation somewhat like this, unable to give the kind of answer that he thinks might be more comforting. Sometimes that's far from helpful in the long-run. ]
I don't think my personal experience could help- [ He slides his hand back into his pocket. ] -but maybe you could try dating a few people.
Akira no.
You make that sound simple...I've had quite a bit of difficulty finding people who don't just treat me as the Detective Prince. I don't think I could be interested in someone who wants to go on a date with me simply because they're a fan.
[Fans are useful sometimes, he doesn't even have to manipulate them to get what he wants. But just because someone's reaction to a polite request that they jump is to hit their head on the ceiling doesn't mean he wants to spend time with them outside of what he has a need to.]
Akira yes.
[ Mmmm... Guess this is going to take piecing his words together carefully. He reaches up, thoughtfully twisting a strand of his bangs... ]
If I hadn't given any of the current people in my life a chance, I wouldn't have the friends I do. [ Akechi should understand the next part to some degree, given his career path... maybe. ] Having a criminal record shoved at me wasn't exactly a friendship magnet.
[ He slides a hand back into his pocket, expression molded into something neutral -- it... certainly hadn't bothered him to hear all those rumors and judgmental remarks. Not at all. ]
Usually, even something like making friends requires taking a chance, and making the effort to reach out just as much as you'd want the other person to. [ Glancing away now in thought for a moment before looking back. ] So, I'd imagine forming something romantic would take even more work.
Akira he's awkward enough about having two crushes.
Well, I would like to travel a little after I take my exams, so maybe I'll be able to meet more people who don't have that image of me outside of Tokyo.
[Assuming he's still alive and not imprisoned for life by that point, of course. He doesn't have high hopes for his future after he completes his plan...which, really, is just another reason he's resigned to being alone. There's no point in looking for a girlfriend when there's only a few months left...]
shhh akechi there's no shame in that
